What do you know about Mexican Wine? You may be delightfully surprised!

The Tryst Café at Desert Ridge offers the ‘Last Wednesday’ May FREE Wine tasting event scheduled for 5:30pm to 8:30pm on May 30th, 2012.

Check to see what we are offering this month at Tryst Cafe.

An ideal mix of sunshine, sea breezes and cool nights attracted the first winemakers, Spanish missionaries, to the Baja California peninsula over 300 years ago.

Production increased almost 40 percent in the past five years, causing cheer at the annual Vendimia harvest festival in Baja California, where 90 percent of Mexico’s wine is produced.

People have only just started to drink Mexican wine and to learn about it. So promoting it, educating people and holding these kinds of events are essential so that they feel more confident. Tryst Café is excited to host these wonderful wines and informative wine tasting event.

Tryst Café Mexican May wine pairing…

New Age White Blend: Chile, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrontes.

Very light-bodied, but utterly crisp and clean with a sweetish attack on the palate filled with honeydew melon, apricot flesh and zippy, zesty citrus fruit.

Amalaya Red Blend: Argentina, Malbec, Cabernet, Syrah and Tannat.

Very fruity, with intense aromas of cherry, raspberry and black berries such as mulberry. It has a soft chocolate touch due to oaking.

Abadia Rivola Red: Spain, Tempranillo and Cabernet.

On the nose, the wine is fresh and generously fruity, with impressions of ripe raspberries, strawberries and wild cherries offset by notes of jasmine, spice and mint. The fragrance is confirmed on the palate, which is mellow, fresh and succulent, supported by clean, subtle, sweetly ripe tannins ending in a silky, elegant finish.

Salneval Albarino; Spain, Light straw in color, the nose of this Albariño is seductive with honey, pear and tropical fruit and a slight mineral component. It is racy and zesty with citrus and floral flavors in the mouth, yet is round and soft at the same time.

Monthly Wine Tasting Event each last Wednesday!

Each month we feature differet wines from different regions. Check to see what we are featuring this month.

While our customers are some of the most sophisticated, debonair diners in the Valley of the Sun, you can never know too much about wines. In Febuary, French wine was that months region, we crated a special menu that featured some great French food and wine pairings, we thought we’d give you a quick overview of the three main ways French wines differ from American wines. Go ahead; impress your friends at parties by throwing around these little facts.

For centuries, Francehas been positioned as the leader in winemaking. Ans, almost every year, France is the top wine consumer in the world. The most critically-acclaimed and treasured whites, reds, sparkling and sweet wines come from France. What makes French wines so different from American wines (and why should you come in and try the ones we’ve selected especially for you)?

  1. Emphasis on locality: While American wines tend to emphasize the grape variety, French wines generally reflect the grapes’ “terroir” or the characteristics of the particular location where the grapes were grown. It’s probably because of the centuries of experience and success the French have with making wines that they emphasize terroir. Newer wine regions might discount the importance of terroir, but that’s most likely because they just haven’t experienced the impact of their own wine terroirs yet. It’s also the case that Terroir is a more important issue for fine wines than it is for simple beverage wines. In contrast to the French, most American wines, and especially the less expensive ones, focus on the grape variety. With this mindset, American wines’ main goal is for the flavor to reflect the varietal character of the grape.
  2. Naming. Because of the French’s emphasis on locale, most French wines are named after the place from which the grape originates such as “Burgundy” or “Bordeaux”. Not surprisingly, American wines are named after their primary grape varieties, such as “Merlot” or “Chardonnay”.
  3. Climate. Many French wines are made in cool or temperate climate regions. These includeBordeaux,Burgundy,Champagne and the Loire Valley. In contrast, only a small percentage of American wine is made in such cool climates. Because they are cool-climate wines, French wines tend to be lower in alcohol, lighter-bodied and higher in acidity than many of American wines with grapes grown in warmer climates. The characteristics of grapes grown and wine produced in the cooler French climates enable many French wines to accompany food more pleasantly than the higher alcohol, fuller-bodied American wines.

Enjoy the taste, the ambience and your new found wine knowledge.

Join us at Tryst Café for an awesome wine tasting event the last WEDNESDAY of each month.
